Day 0 - Modbury to Plymouth/Santander

Distance cycled 15 miles.

We're off, and we've had a relatively gentle "preliminary" run today from Rob's home town to the ferryport in Plymouth for our 3.45pm ferry to Santander. After all the training, it's good to actually get on the road. The pictures show a detour around The Hoe, watching the ferry coming in, and the ferry terminal.

The crossing will take just under 20 hours so we'll be able to relax, have a drink and a good night's sleep without worrying about having to get up early.
Rob's last few days have been hectic as he prepared to leave his business in the hands of others, so this will be a good opportunity for him to purge work from his thoughts and think about the challenges we face ahead.

Brittany Ferries are putting free wi-fi on their ships......but not until 10 May - typical! We won't really need it on our way home.

Tomorrow afternoon, after we've disembarked in Santander, we'll have a chance to see what the first of the Spanish hills are like as we make our way to our first overnight stop just short of Laredo.

  2. Lots of luck and have enormous fun on your tour! Do you guys use Twitter? I'll re-tweet your blog postings as often as I can as it should drive more people here to read about what you're doing (and potentially raise more for your charities!). Have the best time and make the most of every second :-))
